Birdcage Letter Tray
What do you know! We finally made it to Friday. All I have to say is TGIF and bring on the weekend projects.
In honor of Friday, I’m flashing it back to a project I finished last year and honestly, I think it is one of the most fun projects I’ve completed thus far. On one of my junking trips I found an old birdcage. To most people it probably looked like junk and well, it might have been junk, but to me it looked like a project in the works.
I know what you all must be thinking. Why on earth would you waste your money on that piece of junk? or What is that crazy girl going to do with that? Well, I’ll tell you. I took this old birdcage and turned it into a functional letter/paper tray. Think I’m mad now? Well, it’s okay because all of the best people are.
In order to turn this old birdcage into a functional letter/paper tray I cut away one of the ends to create an opening with a jigsaw.
After I finished cutting I began prepping for paint. I mean I love the junk and shabby chic style, but this birdcage needed some TLC…okay a lot of TLC.
To finish up, I took dowels and created a slit at each end so they would be able to grip the side of the birdcage. I then cut two boards to place over the dowels so as to create trays. I’m telling you this was one of my favorite projects I’ve done so far!
