If you have been following me lately on Instagram you may know I have been working on a bedroom project DIY. I have teased and teased and had a few blunders along the way, but the day you may or may not have been waiting for is here. It is officially time for the bedroom project reveal.
This whole project started with a Saturday trip to Michaels. I saw this amazing wall decor that I just could not pass up.
Did you see that sign? Can you really blame me? I didn’t think so. This sign ignited my inspiration and overall vision for this project.
I did not do a very good job of getting the full before. Both my comforter and bed sheets are fairly new and part of the bedroom redo. I do not have a go-to before picture from the previous style of the room, but the before shot below will have to do.
With spring finally upon us this sign was absolutely perfect in every way. I wanted to hang it over my bed, in lieu of the beach painting, but it was a little too small for the space. Thus this project was born.
A little while ago on Instagram one of my favorites I follow, Our Faux Farmhouse completed a DIY wall planter for their outdoor space that I absolutely loved. Side note: If you don’t follow Holly and Brad at Our Faux Farmhouse you should. They are absolutely amazing and I love everything they do. Back to regular programming: I thought I would make my own version on a much smaller scale, of course! Flowers under a flower shop sign, genius I know. The idea for the wall planter was definitely inspired from Our Faux Farmhouse so I would definitely like to thank them and give credit where credit is due. I definitely gave it my own spin, but I never would have thought of pot mounting rings without their project.
Assembly of the Bedroom Project
I used the same flower pot mounting rings from Our Faux Farmhouse Wall Planter tutorial (can be found in their instagram highlights on their profile) tutorial to make my wall planter. You can find the flower pot mounting rings at Lowe’s. For my purpose I only needed three pot rings. I only wanted something to accent the sign.
As both my vision and this project grew I thought I needed just one more element to the space. In comes the garland.
Once I had all of the materials and pieces gathered it was time to install. I wish I could say this project went off without a hitch, but then I would sit on a throne of lies. Although I was using faux flower pots (light weight plastic and faux flowers) the wood piece was pretty heavy so I knew I needed something to secure the wall mount. I thought with the thickness of my board and installing in drywall I would need to use toggles. Well, that was what I call an operation fail. All it did was leave big holes to patch.
Just a note here I learned from this project is really anchors would have been the way to go from the start. I did end up using anchors, but I would have started with anchors. Unless you are a master toggler or just like big holes in your walls, use anchors.
Once I figured out anchors were the way to go it was much easier, well almost. I am not necessarily known for getting something on my first try, but I did get it done. That is really all that matters in the end, right?
After much more blood, sweat, and tears went into the install than I would have liked, I finally was able to mount the wall planter.
I was finally making some progress. Now that I had finally mounted the wall planter I could hang the flower shop sign.
Then comes baby.. Just kidding! Finally it was time to hang the garland. Spoiler alert I decided to be a bit EXTRA and add twinkling lights to the garland. Me EXTRA? Shocking I know.
I think everyone who has made it this far reading deserves a reward, or at the very least a viewing of the final project. I think I’ve tortured you long enough. This project started from the inspiration of a simple sign from Michaels and blossomed into one of my favorite projects to date. I hope you have enjoyed this project journey as well. Onto the next one! Until then here it is folks, the final bedroom project reveal!
I even spruced up my cabinet right next to my bed. I still have a lot to finish as far as the bedroom redo is concerned, but this project is wrap.
I’ll leave you with one final reveal shot…
